The Lauterbrunnen–Mürren Mountain Railway: cableway – 4 minutes – and cogwheel train – 14 minutes. The Grütschalp leaves Lauterbrunnen every half hour – trip to Murren = 20 minutes. Murren to Schilthorn – cable car leaves Murren every half hour. Journey to Schilthorn = 17 minutes. Back to Murren every half an hour.
You want to research where you are going to get a better feel of the terrain and why you can’t park in Murren. It is about 2500ft vertically higher than Lauterbrunnen. So yes - you can walk. But that’s a very intensive hike.
From Lauterbrunnen, you can take the cableway to Grütschalp. Then change to the narrow gauge train to Mürren BLM, the train station in the north of the village. Take the bus from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg. Then take the cableway up to Mürren, with a change in Gimmelwald. The cable car station is in the south of the village.
Great hike from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren. We hiked there and back for a total of 8-9 miles. The first 2ish miles are strenuous uphill but with great views and you may be able to spot some cows. The last 1.5ish miles is flat but you’re exposed. Would recommend this hike to anyone in the Lauterbrunnen area.
Trümmelbach Falls. Walk from Lauterbrunnen to the Trümmelbach falls. It is a 30 minute walk and about 1.7 miles to get there. It is a flat walk with amazing views where you can see many of the 72 waterfalls that are in Lauterbrunnen. The Tummelback Falls are a waterfall in a mountain!!
Walk past the Stechelberg Hotel to the bus stop on the left (west) side of the road 4.3 miles. There are a number of restaurants in Stechelberg with scenic outdoor terraces where you can relax and get some refreshments before catching the bus to Lauterbrunnen. Alternatively, turn around and walk back to Lauterbrunnen for a 8.6 mile round-trip hike.
Wengen is one of the most popular mountain villages of the Bernese Alps. The town is located above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, with magnificent views of the Jungfrau and other snow-covered Alps. Wengen is car-free. Drivers have to park in Lauterbrunnen down in the valley. It takes some time to reach Wengen.
Wengen and Murren are both car free villages and are slightly smaller than Lauterbrunnen. Murren is the highest of the 3. You can look across the valley and down a little and see Wengen. Staying in Lauterbrunnen you can have a great view of Staubbach falls which can be nice. Wengen seems to me to be a little upscale from the other two villages
You can take a train from Grindelwald to Mürren via Kleine Scheidegg, Lauterbrunnen, and Lauterbrunnen, Bahnhof in around 2h 21m. Train operators Berner Oberland-Bahnen
